OUR MISSION
THE YMCA OF LONG ISLAND IS A CHARITABLE, NON-PROFIT, COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICE ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF CHILDREN, ADULTS AND FAMILIES THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT DEVELOP SPIRIT, MIND, AND BODY.
The YMCA of Long Island is committed to:
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen.
Programs focus on a cradle-to-college model and include year-round care for children, quality preschool education, youth fitness, before/after school care, and teen leadership programs.
HEALTHY LIVING
Improving our community's health and well-being.
Programs include chronic disease prevention, drug and alcohol prevention, and physical activities for all ages. Two signature YMCA programs are designed to reduce the onset of type 2 diabetes and to prevent childhood obesity.
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Giving back and providing support to our neighbors.
Social Responsibility is the foundation of all YMCA of Long Island efforts. We are committed to addressing the Achievement Gap, Water Safety, employment for teens, Universal Pre-K and Early Care Programs ensuring future success.
A national cause committed to lasting personal and social change, across the U.S., 2,700 YMCAs engage 21 million men, women, and children – regardless of age, income or background – to nurture the potential of children and teens, improve the nation's health and well-being and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors.
Although health and wellness remain a pillar of the Y's service, our impact extends far beyond the traditional gym and swim. The Y is community centered. For nearly 160 years, we’ve been listening and responding to more than 10,000 communities where we serve.
Throughout the Long Island YMCA's 100 year history, we have provided transformative programs to meet the deepest needs of our community and serve 65,982 children and adults annually who reflect the diverse backgrounds, ages, and income levels that comprise our communities. Across Long Island there is an existing disparity in income, health care access, education and quality of life. The Y serves as a means to bridge the gaps in quality of life and resources.
