Sean: Everyone Deserves a Fair Shot at Life

Life is full of complex choices. Some choices push you forward. Some choices hold you back. Like everyone, I have had an abundance both. My life choices have taken me around the world and back, through numerous positions, in various industries. Somehow the choices I've made brought me to Roosevelt, a once thriving town that throughout the years has been forgotten, with few public services and even fewer resources. 

Choice for All is a non-profit that aims to better the lives affected by this abandonment by offering services in various focus areas including education, child and adult development, policy and advocacy, and health equity.

I volunteered to chaperone a trip this past summer and while waiting for the bus to pick us up I was able to read short stories written by the children in the after-school program. The story that stuck out to me the most was about a little girl, her father, and an evil villain that took him away. Little did I know this story was about her father being taken away by I.C.E. just a few hours early. This story and the magical day I had on the field trip are the reason I commute an hour an a half every day to get to work. Everybody deserves a chance at life no matter how many times it takes to get this right.  "If you can't do great things, do small things in a great way."
